OVERVIEW:

PURPOSE:

Design Tulip's next generation hardware to connect sensors and communications data into the cloud. Our vision

My work:

I was the primary engineer for all of the electronics design on this board - product-market research, device architecture, part selection, layout and initial production.

TECHNICAL DETAILS:

Context:

Tulip is a cloud SaaS platform for manufacturing. The device I built is the second generation gateway - the interface between the physical world and the cloud. It routes many different inputs to Tulip's Cloud Platform.

This board integrates analog, digital, and communications interfaces into one device.

Notable Quirks:

  • All electronics are on the front of the board save for indicator LEDs on the back.
  • Very low cost - total BOM is ~$130 at MP quantity
  • Custom linux distribution (Yocto)

What's NEXT?

We are currently in PROTO2 of this device. We plan to mass produce this device and sell across US and European markets. First run will be ~500 units with full FCC and CE certification.
